YASHICA TWIN LENS REFLEX CAMERAS

Yashica-635
120 roll film & 35mm film

A unique approach to multi-purpose equipment. The Yashica 635 is both a capable roll film medium format twin lens reflex (based on the Yashica D configuration) and a 35mm vertical format portrait camera when fitted with the optional 35mm kit.

Notwithstanding its "quirky" design the 635 is a sought-after model. It has the advantages of the focus and film advance knobs fitted on the right hand side of the body making it particularly suitable for mounting professional flash guns. (You don't need a third hand to operate the 635).

Early models of this camera were fitted with the 3 element Yashicor f3.5 lens, later models like the example pictured (left) are fitted with the Yashinon 4 element "tessar" type lens with a f2.8 viewing lens offering a brighter image on the fresnel screen.

Some may  ask why any photo buff would want a 6 x 6 camera with 35 roll film capability as an added option, particularly when the TLR design cannot easily use a rectangular horizontal format. The 80mm lens is an ideal portrait lens, when combined  with flash sync at all speeds and a silent vibration free copal shutter, excellent results can be expected. Even in this "digi" age 35mm roll film is still almost universally obtainable
