Sony Alpha 100 DSLR At the start of the new Millennia Sony was working with Minolta to develop a digital single lens reflex camera with the design thought to be based on Minolta's D5 and D7 cameras. However in 2006 Minolta opted to get out of photographic and sold their interests to Sony. The Sony Alpha 100 is therefore Sony's first venture into the SLR area. The camera incorporates all the Minolta goodies including such exotics as "eye start" and "Anti Shake" (worth three full f stops in low light) I bought my Camera "Body Only" as I already owned a Minolta 35mm SLR and the lens systems were interchangeable. After trying a number of lens combinations I finally settled on a four lens system consisting of 3 Zooms and a prime. Vivitar 19-35, Minolta 35-105, and AF(Cosina) 100-400 As the Sony Charged Coupled Device CCD is not 35mm full frame format all the lens focal lengths must be multiplied by 1.5 to obtain the effective size relative to the image. the Sony Alpha is a physically large DSLR which suits me as I am rather larger than average myself! It is well constructed form predominately metal castings. The controls are easy to use and follow the Minolta system. It has a large LCD screen which is available for playback and editing. The menu system is very similar to other Sony cameras and easy to use. Resolution up to 10.2 Mega pixels is all that one could need in a small format DSLR |

Sony MVC500
This unusual camera combines a 5 mega pixel CCD with a Mini CD storage
system. Fitted with a very sharp Ziess Sonar zoom lens x3
magnification.
Whilst quite large in size (to accommodate the mini CD) It has a large LCD which is available for both composition and playback. Capable of full manual operation as well as a good range of Programme Modes the MVC500 is a capable travel camera. As well as its "stills" use it has a video (with sound) capability at VGA resolution recording in Mpeg format. More than just an "Ugly Duckling" this camera is built to Sony's high quality standards.
CASIO EXLIM "Wearable digital camera" is how Casio describe this cute little unit. More than a toy, I carry this camera with me on most outings. Who knows when a photo opportunity will appear. |
