JOHN CORNISH - MANAGEMENT
PROFILE
Twelve
years Teaching at Burnie Technical College in the 70’s culminated in
1980 in John being appointed Principal
of the West Coast Community College (TAFE) serving the Tasmanian mining
industry.
In
1991 he moved to Launceston to take up the position of Deputy Principal
Launceston College of TAFE.
Resigning
in 1995 he successfully operated his own small business in the Gas
Industry until 2000.
Elected
as Chief Commissioner of the Scout Association (Tasmania) in 1998, in the
ensuing 6 years he completed the restructuring of the Association to make
it relevant and responsive to current community needs.
This
voluntary near full-time position, (similar to a Managing Director)
involved the oversight of the activities of some 500 part time leaders and
2000 youth members. He served concurrently on the National Executive of
the Association retiring in June 2004.
John’s proactive work in
policy development and implementation was recognised by the Scout
Association in 2004, honoring him with its highest award, The Silver
Kangaroo for eminent achievement and meritorious service.
John's broad experience and knowledge of management techniques
and issues is now recognised and in demand by small business enterprises
across Tasmania.
